THE JOURNEY
Pfeiffer Beach is a place of strong natural architecture. Rock formations interrupt the horizon while the Pacific moves continuously around and through them.
The memory behind the painting is one of contrast: solid stone against changing water, deep shadow against sudden reflected light.
IN THE STUDIO
The rock forms were built with decisive, weighty marks, while the water was handled more fluidly through layered colour and broken edges.
The aim was not to freeze the movement but to let the painting hold both permanence and change at once.
WHERE IT BEGAN
The photograph records a place. The painting preserves what remained after distance, time and memory had altered it.
