The work was developed quickly and intuitively, preserving the first relationships of colour and value.
Broad tonal passages remain visible, allowing the viewer to see the structure beneath the finished image.

The study captures the first essential relationship between place, colour and memory.

Salt Lakes Study offers a more intimate version of the subject and preserves the immediacy of the artist’s first response.
