THE STORY BEHIND THE PAINTING
A chapter in light and place.
THE JOURNEY
The Isle of Portland carries a strong meeting of geology, sea and weather. The coastline feels exposed, shaped continuously by wind and water.
The painting grew from the relationship between solid land and luminous distance, with the horizon acting as both division and connection.
IN THE STUDIO
The land was handled with more weight and texture, while the sea and sky were developed through thinner, quieter layers.
The contrast between those surfaces allowed the island to feel anchored without losing the atmosphere around it.
