THE JOURNEY
The Madison River moves through a landscape of remarkable scale, yet its presence is calm rather than dramatic. Water, sky and distant land seem to belong to the same continuous space.
I was drawn to the way the river organized the view. It created a path through the wilderness, reflecting light while also leading the eye toward the horizon.
IN THE STUDIO
The river was established through transparent horizontal passages before more broken marks introduced current and reflected colour.
The distant land was softened deliberately so the painting would retain depth and air, with the river acting as both subject and compositional guide.
WHERE IT BEGAN
The photograph records a place. The painting preserves what remained after distance, time and memory had altered it.
