THE JOURNEY
The desert holds colour differently from any other landscape. Stone, dust and sky absorb the day’s heat, then return it as the sun begins to fall.
This painting grew from the feeling of watching that warmth gather across the land. The view was vast, yet the most powerful moment was intimate: a narrow band of light turning distant forms into silhouettes.
IN THE STUDIO
Warm transparent glazes were built gradually so that the colour would carry depth rather than appear decorative.
The darker foreground was kept restrained, allowing the sky to remain luminous while a few textured marks tied the atmosphere back to the physical land.
WHERE IT BEGAN
The photograph records a place. The painting preserves what remained after distance, time and memory had altered it.
