THE STORY BEHIND THE PAINTING
A chapter in light and place.
THE JOURNEY
Coastal paths hold a particular sense of invitation. The land offers direction while the open water continually pulls the eye beyond it.
What stayed with me was the relationship between the intimate foreground and the limitless distance—a human route set against something vast and changing.
IN THE STUDIO
The path was used as the structural line of the painting, but its edges were softened so it felt discovered rather than diagrammed.
Cool coastal colour was balanced with warmer earth notes, and textured marks helped connect the physical surface of the paint to the uneven ground.
