THE STORY BEHIND THE PAINTING
A chapter in light and place.
THE JOURNEY
Water has a remarkable ability to hold the colour of the sky. Along this quiet creek, every movement of the current created a different conversation between reflection and light.
Blues shifted towards turquoise before dissolving into shadow beneath the surrounding trees. Rather than searching for drama, I was drawn to the subtle rhythm of the water and the complete stillness of the moment.
IN THE STUDIO
The painting developed through layered transparent colour, allowing light to emerge from beneath the surface rather than being placed directly on top.
Palette-knife marks introduced movement across the water while softer brushwork preserved the quiet atmosphere. The result became less a description of a creek and more an exploration of tranquillity.
