A chapter in light and place.

Waterfalls are often experienced first through sound. Before the full view appears, there is the steady force of water moving through rock and forest.

What interested me here was the balance between energy and calm: two descending movements held within a landscape that otherwise seemed motionless.

The water was not painted as a single white shape. Cooler transparent passages and broken, directional marks allow it to feel as though it is moving through the surface.

The surrounding rock and vegetation were kept more restrained so that the falls could carry the rhythm of the composition.

Waterfall and wilderness landscape

Experience before interpretation.

The journey photograph is a record of place. The finished painting is an interpretation shaped by time, memory and the physical language of paint.

Living with the work.

Double Falls brings movement into the Water & Reflection collection while retaining the atmospheric quiet that characterizes the wider body of work.

The original should be supplied signed and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. Framing, delivery and collection details can be discussed directly with the studio.
