A chapter in light and place.

Fresh snowfall quiets a place while simplifying it. Colour becomes subtle, edges soften and familiar forms are reduced to their most important relationships.

I was drawn to the sense of renewal—the feeling that the landscape had been briefly returned to an earlier, untouched state.

The snow was painted through colour rather than white alone, using cool blues, greys and muted reflected warmth.

Texture was concentrated where the land broke through, creating a dialogue between softness and structure.

Snowy Scottish landscape

Experience before interpretation.

The photograph records a place. The painting preserves what remained after distance, time and memory had altered it.

Living with the work.

Fresh Snow is a serene winter painting that brings light and calm into an interior without losing the physical presence of the landscape.
