THE STORY BEHIND THE PAINTING
A chapter in light and place.
THE JOURNEY
Lighthouses carry a powerful contradiction. They are isolated structures whose purpose is entirely connected to others.
This painting grew from the emotional weight of that solitude: one vertical form holding its position against sea, weather and darkness.
IN THE STUDIO
The lighthouse was kept simple and direct, while the surrounding atmosphere was allowed to remain active and changing.
The contrast between structure and weather gives the painting its tension, turning the lighthouse into both subject and symbol.
