THE STORY BEHIND THE PAINTING
A chapter in light and place.
THE JOURNEY
Woodland landscapes are never experienced all at once. They arrive through glimpses: light between trunks, a sudden opening and the rhythm of branches crossing the view.
Bentley developed from that layered experience, where depth is felt through interruption rather than through a distant horizon.
IN THE STUDIO
The painting was built through overlapping marks and varied edges, allowing some passages to remain open while others became dense and textured.
Colour was kept earthy but alive, with lighter notes creating movement through the darker structure.
