THE STORY BEHIND THE PAINTING
A chapter in light and place.
THE JOURNEY
King Canyon is defined by containment and release. Rock walls narrow the view, then suddenly open toward sky and distance.
The experience was less about a single landmark than the rhythm of moving through the canyon: shadow, heat, exposed stone and brief passages of brilliant light.
IN THE STUDIO
Strong value contrasts established the canyon walls, while warmer transparent layers allowed light to appear embedded within the rock.
The composition was simplified to preserve the sensation of passage, guiding the viewer inward rather than presenting the canyon as a distant panorama.
