THE STORY BEHIND THE PAINTING
THE JOURNEY
The title suggests adventure, but the painting is rooted in atmosphere rather than narrative. Dark water, distant light and the suggestion of hidden movement create a scene that feels remembered from another time.
What interested me was the tension between mystery and invitation. The darkness conceals detail while the remaining light draws the eye deeper into the scene.
IN THE STUDIO
The painting was built through deep transparent layers, allowing the darkest passages to retain colour rather than collapse into black.
Small areas of light were placed carefully so they would feel discovered, creating rhythm and direction without resolving the entire scene.
WHERE IT BEGAN
The photograph records a place. The painting preserves what remained after distance, time and memory had altered it.
COLLECTOR'S NOTE
Pirates is a dramatic nocturne with a cinematic atmosphere and a strong sense of story, suited to a collector drawn to mystery and mood.
The original should be supplied signed and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. Framing and delivery can be discussed directly with the studio.
