A chapter in light and place.

The River Soar offered a familiar English landscape shaped by water, weather and changing season. Its calm surface carried fragments of sky and bank, never quite settling into a fixed image.

The painting began with the river’s quiet continuity—the sense of a landscape moving forward without hurry.

Horizontal transparent passages established the water before broken brush and knife marks introduced current, reflection and the edge of the bank.

The composition was kept balanced and low in contrast so the rhythm of the river could remain the central presence.

Experience before interpretation.

The photograph records a place. The painting preserves what remained after distance, time and memory had altered it.

Living with the work.

River Soar is a reflective and understated work that brings a quiet, lyrical character to the Water & Reflection series.
